Childrearing Practices – 2nd Edition
Childrearing Practices – 2nd Edition
Each society lives on through its children.
Childrearing practices are rapidly changing in Nunavut, yet many features of traditional childrearing can still be observed. In this book, students from Nunavut Arctic College’s Inuit Studies Program interview South Baffin Elders Naqi Ekho and Uqsuralik Ottokie to learn about various topics pertaining to Inuit childrearing practices.
Naqi and Uqsuralik share their life stories and perspectives on pregnancy, birthing practices, upbringing, nutrition and health, stories, games and songs, and children’s emotions. The course was facilitated by renown ethnographer and author Jean Briggs, who also edited this third volume of the Interviewing Elders Series.
This is a new and updated edition of the original 2000 publication.
